Contour Tracing and Encodings of Binary Patterns
This paper presents an algorithm for tracing the boundary of binary patterns. A 3×3 window operator is employed and the tracing scheme can be applied to detect both outer and inner boundaries. Direction codes, concave and convex features extracted from a “coding” process, are used to describe the shape of the patterns. This algorithm can be applied in various areas of pattern recognition, shape analysis, and computer perception of two-dimensional pictures.
