Abstract
Conversion phases from the transition zones between the upper and lower mantle beneath North America have been observed at North American stations and at the GRF-array in Germany. Synthetic seismograms have been calculated in order to determine the velocity contrast and thickness of the transition zones at which conversion took place. The observations can be explained by models having two well developed transition zones at depths of 400 and 670 km.
