Abstract
Two examples of regional paleoclimatic reconstruction are discussed. The first deals with the problem of the steppetundra environment of Beringia during Late Glacial time. The most likely scenario is a mosaic of topoclimates and landscape elements. The second concerns the mechanisms for glacial inception in North America. The role of a warm ocean and albedo feedback are suggested as critical.
