Abstract
The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate the high reactivity of energetic molecular species, such as electronically or vibrationally excited states, ionic species and free radicals, by describing very briefly some of the typical fast reactions in energetic systems. The information is presented in order to stress the important role molecular species can play during the early stages of initiation of fast reactions in energetic materials. Furthermore, it is intended to illustrate the powerful potential of time resolved spectroscopic diagnostics to elucidate fast molecular and macroscopic reaction mechanisms in energetic systems or materials.
