Stellar Analogs of Solar Microwave Phenomena

Solar Phenomena in Stars and Stellar Systems

Part of the book series: NATO Advanced Study Institutes Series ((ASIC,volume 68))

Abstract

Because of the appearance of two complete (as of July 1979), and readily available reviews dealing with solar-like microwave emission from late-type stars, namely:

  • “Nonthermal Microwave Phenomena in Other Stars,” by R.M. Hjellming and D.M. Gibson (1980), and

  • “Binarity as a Factor in Stellar Radio Emission,” by D.M. Gibson (1980),

I think it unnecessary to present another similar review in this NATO ASI Proceeding. Instead, let me first give a brief summary of this important aspect of stellar activity in which I coalesce the important findings of the above papers and references therein. I will then follow with several addenda highlighting important new observations which have been reported in the interim.
