Determination Of ‘Decade’ Fluctuations in the Earth–s Rotation 1620–1978

Abstract

The ‘decade’ fluctuations in the Earth’s rotation in the period 1620–1978 are derived from astronomical observations. The torques on the mantle which produce these fluctuations attain a magnitude of 1018Nm (1025 dyn cm) around 1900.
