Abstract
I have been asked to introduce the opening section of essays concerning the physician’s and the researcher’s mandate from society and particularly the legal aspects of that mandate. I should like to offer a few brief comments concerning the legal obligations of the physician in contemporary society, particularly in light of the ever-evolving nature of the physician-patient relationship.
