Abstract

The aetiology and pathogenesis of 3 diarrhoeal disease entities were investigated in intensive piggeries and in the laboratory. These include, early neonatal diarrhoea occurring in 8 to 16 hour old piglets, neonatal diarrhoea affecting piglets from 3 days to 3 or 4 week old, and postweaning diarrhoea affecting 3 to 4 week old, newly weaned piglets. The role of rotavirus which was found to be involved at some stage with each disease entity, was evaluated.
