Abstract

One common feature of most of the so-called alternative energy sources is that they will produce an increased emphasis on electricity as the principal energy carrier to the user. This creates a number of problems associated with the distribution of fuel to moving equipment at remote areas, and with the storage of energy; at the moment the only available technique for large scale storage of electricity is through pumped hydroelectric schemes.
