Abstract
It has been pointed out that there are genetical differences in the nitrogen assimilation capacity of roots, and that they are effected by a typical nitrate intensity in relation to that of the shoot [4]. Nitrogen assimilation from nitrate as the only nitrogen source requires, apart from the substrate and the enzyme nitrate reductase, carbon structures, energy rich compounds and reduction equivalents. For this the root has to be supplied with carbohydrates by the shoot. It is well known that carbon metabolism is strongly influenced by the manganese supply of the plant.
