Abstract

Meiotic behaviour and fertility of an autotetraploid Vicia faba are described in relation to effects of temperature and agronomic practice.

Positive correlations existed between number of quadrivalents and fertility. Sowing date was an important determinant of fertility but removal of the shoot apex did not improve seed set. The regularity of meiosis as affected by temperature was assessed by counting the number of micronuclei at the tetrad stage.
