Abstract
The term “fetal alcohol syndrome” has been introduced to describe a number of features seen in some children born to mothers who have drunk large amounts of alcohol chronically before and during pregnancy. The constellation of features seen in these children consists of prenatal and postnatal growth retardation, developmental delay, mental retardation, and a number of major and minor congenital anomalies. (Table 14-1).
