Radiographic Approach to the Staging of Lymphoma, Including Hodgkin’s Disease

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Cancer Treatment and Research ((CTAR,volume 4))

Abstract

The significant improvement in the prognosis of both Hodgkin’s disease and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, as reported over the preceding two decades, has resulted from greater accuracy in the demonstration of sites of involvement using improved diagnostic and staging techniques coupled with new forms of therapy, including intensive megavoltage radiotherapy, combination chemotherapy, and combined modality therapy. The staging and management of the malignant lymphomas is discussed here, with specific attention to the role of modern non-invasive radiological procedures, including computed tomography, in the delineation of extent of the disease, assessment of response to treatment, and evaluation of relapse.
