Abstract

From the literature it is a well known fact that high-pressure, low-volume cuffs usually produce ulceration of the tracheal mucosa during prolonged intubation. It was a great step forward in preventing serious tracheal complications that low-pressure, high-volume cuffs were introduced some 10 years ago.
