Abstract
Hypoxemia during flexible fiberbronchoscopy has been reported before. The reasons for depression of arterial pO2 (paO2) are known only in part and have been discussed in the literature. Whether hypoxemia occurs in all patients is also unclear. And it is also of interest to determine exactly when hypoxemia starts. We investigated these problems by measuring continuously the paO2 of 20 patients undergoing fiberbronchoscopy. The advantage of continuous registration of arterial pO2 is the detection even of short periods of hypoxemia.
