Synthesis Kinetics and Characterization of Poly (Vinyl Acetate) — Molecular Weight and Long Chain Branching Development

  • Chapter
Emulsion Polymerization of Vinyl Acetate

Summary

This chapter contains a review of recent developments concerning the kinetics of molecular weight development of poly(vinyl acetate) in solution, bulk and emulsion polymerization. This includes a discussion of analytical techniques based on liquid size exclusion chromatography for the measurement of frequency of long chain branching of poly(vinyl acetates) as a function of molecular weight. Kinetic models which account for transfer to monomer and polymer and consider terminal double bond reactions have an extensive range of validity in the emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate.
