Summary
In order to minimise fuel consumption and increase thrust, the operating temperatures of aero engine gas turbines have increased significantly over the last 30 years.
The changes in mechanical design to facilitate improved efficiency are outlined and the property requirements and choice of materials for particular components are discussed.
