Abstract
The development of a seasonal succession of phytoplankton species in Rutland Water is described. The factors controlling their succession and abundance are discussed in relation to changes in physical and chemical variables. At present, input of water from the catchment and by pumping from the Rivers Welland and Nene, has the greatest influence on phytoplankton abundance.
