Abstract

Unilateral traumatic aphakia is often a great obstruction for binocular and stereoscopic vision. Even after repair of the focusing power, binocular rehabilitation can be delayed by many factors. In order to investigate the long term results of the binocular functions, all cases of unilateral traumatic cataract over the last eight years, treated in the Eye Hospital Rotterdam, were traced in the medical archives. Before sending them an invitation for re-examination, the patients had to fulfill the following requirements: — no ocular abnormality before the accident; — the age at the time of the accident had to be between 8 and 50 years; — the traumatic lesions had to be limited to the anterior segment; and — the visual acuity after the accident had to be recovered up to, at least, 50%.
