Abstract
Remineralization of enamel is an important factor in the prevention of dental caries. Fluoride may either enhance or reduce remineralization effectiveness, depending on dose, frequency and form of application. This contribution pertains to in-vitro remineralization of demineralized enamel after an intense fluoride pretreatment. This pretreatment inhibits longterm remineralization. To explain this phenomenon it is suggested that the pretreatment induces a loss of growth sites on enamel crystallites.
