Abstract

The use of complex OR models gives rise to the problem of acceptance which has been being discussed since recently. In this discussion the existence of OR models is taken for granted. There is however, a problem of acceptance with regard to shaping a certain problem and handling it or not, once the customary scope of procedures and methods generally practiced gone beyond. More precisely, this refers to a first problem of acceptance as to the decision of deeming a problem worth being handled and shaped, the solution of which problem constituting a prerequisite for designing a model of higher complexity. The point is that the cases in question have to be new ones, otherwise the procedures applied would be commonly known and combine the formulation of the problem and possible ways of solution. Since time and cost are required for shaping the problem, the necessary expenditure has to be assured prior to the clear definition of the problem and the possibility of solving it.
