Abstract

Although over the last fifteen years many authors have investigated the question of whether or not the gravitational collapse of the cores of highly evolved massive stars (M ≳ 10 MƟ) can give rise to the observed (type II) supernova events, the problem has not been solved yet, despite the fact that the general ideas are quite simple and convincing.
