Observations of Zodiacal Light at Abu-Simbel, Egypt, during the Period 1975–1979

Abstract

The curves published by Weinberg (1964) indicated the existance of large discrepancies between measured brightness and polarization of Zodical Light (ZL) published by different observers. This could be partially explained by the solar activity, in such a way, that the brightness increased with decreasing solar activity while the polarization behaved in the opposite sence. Such relations were noted by Asaad (1967) and by Dufay (1966) and Weill (1966). Besides Asaad et al. (1979 a) found that the brightness of the ZL was higher if observed from low geographical latitudes by about 30% for a latitude difference of 10o. They also noted that the brightness was higher by 50% for an increase in the elevation of the observing site above sea level by about 8000 feet.
