Abstract

Hong Kong, the ‘Pearl of the Orient’, is a small territory of about 400 square miles. Of this area, just over one-fifth of the land is immediately usable. Yet, it has a population comparable to that of Norway, Guinea, Niger, or the Domincan Republic. Hence it is one of the most densely populated places in the world. This is shown in Table I.
