Steroid Metabolism in the Adrenal Cortex

Abstract

Isotopic investigations using 131I- or 75Se-labelled cholesterol constitute an interesting technique for the in vivo diagnosis of morphological or functional disorders of the human adrenal cortex. The aim of this short review paper is to present the essential part of ultrastructural morphological and biochemical data allowing the true interpretation of results obtained by means of the scintigraphic or functional isotopic investigations. This article constitutes in fact an extended summary of the last and most up to date review articles existing in the literature (1–5), and of the authors own thesis (6), devoted to the same subject.
