Abstract

The work of our research group in this field commenced in 1969 and has been concerned generally with development of methods for cancer investigation. Here conventional pulse- echo imaging has a central role and part of our objective has been to understand and quantify the ultrasound-tissue interactions on which imaging depends, and thus to work towards improvements in the “diagnostic” quality of images. Coupled with this we have tried to develop ideas for objective classification of tissue type in a manner that would complement conventional imaging methods.
