Abstract
Muscular hypertrophy changes the rates of growth of the different parts of the musculature. This affects the weight ratio between these parts and the partition of the different chemical components.
The ratios between protein — lipid and water content are different in muscles of hypertrophied animals as compared to normal animals. It is mainly the proportion of the various proteins which is affected. Typically there is a drop of the collagen content in the various muscles of the hypertrophied animals in comparison with homologous muscles from normal animals.
Some other components, such as myoglobin, change in relation to the distribution of the metabolic types of fibre.
