Abstract
Participants in the 1980 SUERF Colloquium have received no less than 19 substantive papers. They have listened to opening statements by Governor Erik Hoffmeyer and M. Pierre Ledoux. The approximately 600 pages of circulated and often dense text has been discussed for five hours in four parallel commissions attended by the 150 participants. There has indeed been cornucopia of papers. When I was approached early this year by the President of SUERF I did not keep these salient facts in mind. Rather I thought of the usefulness of efforts by earlier Rapporteurs Généraux, of how much I had myself benefitted from the elegant and compact surveys at the end of four previous SUERF Colloquia by Professors Forte, Abraham and Coulbois and, most recently, by Dr. Lutz.
