Abstract
Although this paper has the general title “Evolving Problems of International Financial Intermediation” it is almost solely concerned with the role and operations of the private international banks. It begins by describing the major trends in the nature and volume of international borrowing and lending during the 1970s. Section II then analyses the problems which are beginning to emerge; and Section III discusses how far these problems could limit further intermediation and what might be done to alleviate the position.
