Abstract
When Friedman reviewed the Jaffé translation of Walras’s great work, he concluded with a significant statement:
This conception — or rather misconception — of economics that is far better equipped in respect to form than of substance. In consequence, the major work that needs to be done is Marshallian rather than Walrasian in character. [Friedman 1955, p. 909]
