Abstract

The mechano-bullous diseases are a group of inherited non-inflammatory disorders in which blisters and erosions occur with mechanical, often minor, trauma. They were previously grouped together under the term epidermolysis bullosa. However, as a result of ultra-structural studies it is clear that in the scarring, so-called dystrophic forms, pathology occurs beneath the basement membrane so that these scarring conditions are now commonly referred to as dermolytic bullous dermatosis.
