Abstract
Patterns of feeding babies vary worldwide and have varied in the Western world from decade to decade. The past 50 years have seem the pendulum swing from breast feeding to almost entire bottle feeding but the past decade has seen renewed enthusiasm for breast feeding which, in part, has been due to medical evidence demonstrating more clearly its advantages, the rising cost of formula feeds and fashion.
