Introductory Meteorology and Fluid Dynamics

Book cover Air-Sea Exchange of Gases and Particles

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 108))

Abstract

Atmosphere and ocean are probably the most complex system which is treated in physics, since the scales of motions involved span such a wide range:some 10,000 km for long planetary waves, through a few millimeters for the scale of decaying turbulent eddies. The motions at different scales interact. An overview of such a complex system is necessarily incomplete. Emphasis is on such processes which relate more or less directly to the transport of gases and particles. The treatment in the introductory chapters on meteorology and physical oceanography is descriptive rather than deductive.
