Abstract

The mechanism of cosmic-ray acceleration by diffusive shock waves (1–4) is now very popular, especially for galactic cosmic-ray acceleration. First, we briefly summarize the main features of the mechanism. For more details the reader is referred to the second lecture by C. Cesarsky.
