Abstract

During a successful mission of more than 6½ years, from August 1975 until April 1982, the ESA COS-B satellite (Scarsi et al. 1977) has observed the sky in gamma rays of energy greater than 50 MeV. The Milky Way is completely covered (Mayer-Hasselwander et al. 1982) and at all longitudes the survey is extended to medium latitude regions at |b|≲20° or at some selected regions even further.
