Abstract
Whether man’s consciousness arises from his bodily condition or is an active entity in itself vis-à-vis the world and the body are qúestions of crucial importance to which many, and sometimes contradictory answers have been given. Science itself has contributed to both the confusion and the attempted elucidation of the problem.
