Abstract

The less-developed root system of short-stem barley varieties can limit yield formation through nutrition. These genotypes are not capable of utilizing higher rates of nutrients. Solution of the problem of intake increase and nutrient utilization by these varieties is considered by plant breeders to be one of the key tasks of the physiological-biochemical research of cereal crops. Kudrna 2 states (2) that the initiative work of (plant, stand) system manifesting itself in 3. thermodynamic phase by fast and vigorous growth of biomass is a consequence of utilization of internal energy that was accumulated due to energy absorption of existing factors, with mineral nutrients being among them. Dynamic observation of nutrient absorption processes enables the appraisal of genotype differences in absorption capacity of root tissues and thus to prepare conditions for selection of the varieties of higher performance. Varietal differences in capacities for ion absorption in cereals have been shown by Sarić and Kovačevič4 and Glass et al. 1
