Abstract
Annual precipitation in Turkey varies between 220 mm. to 2500 mm., with an average annual precipitation of 679 mm. This corresponds to a total water potential of 518 × 109 m3 /year. About 245 mm., or approximately 180 × 109 m3 per year occurs as flow in rivers. According to recent feasibility studies with the construction of 450 to 500 dams, it will be possible to regulate all the rivers and make use of 95 × 109 m3 /year of this amount. In addition, the available groundwater reserve of Turkey is 9.4 × 109 m3 /year. Therefore the net sum of available water is 105 × 109 m3/year.
