Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and azaarenes (nitrogen-containing polycyclic aromatic coumpounds, N-PAC) are formed during incomplete combustion or pyrolysis of organic material such as fossil fuels, resulting in the same profile of carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic individuals (1). On the other hand, processes of carbonization occuring, e.g., during the generation of mineral oil and coal, also produce these compounds.
