Proplast and Plastipore in the Middle Ear

Abstract

Proplast is a combination of two polymer fibres - teflon and vitreous carbon. The physical appearance is that of a resilient black felt sponge. The pore size ranges from 100 to 500 ยต and the pore volume is in the region of 75% of the prosthesis. It is malleable and easily cut with a knife.
