Abstract

Increased attention has been given to cytologic and histologic techniques for the detection of endometrial lesions because of an increasing incidence of endometrial malignancy. The mortality rate of endometrial cancer has remained unchanged in recent years. One effective way to reduce this mortality rate is the screening of women who are at risk with respect to endometrial carcinoma. Although out-patient procedures for the diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma have been advocated for 50 years, conventional dilatation and curettage under general an aesthesia has remained the prime diagnostic procedure. In recent years new diagnostic procedures have been developed, many of them easy to perform and with a high degree of accuracy.
