Abstract
The basic ECE study “Increased Energy Economy on Efficiency in the ECE Region”, published in 1976 (6)-, resulted in the understanding that some 85 per cent of the energy content of the deposits of primary sources of energy exploited at present, are “lost” on their way to final use. According to this study the stage of extraction is the most inefficient one among the four stages of energy flow from the deposits to end use (e.g. extraction; upgrading and conversion; transport, distribution and storage; final utilization). In this stage about 59 per cent of the total energy losses occur on average of the coal, oil and gas extraction processes.
