Abstract
The static and fatigue tensile performance of unidirectional GRP and CFRP plain coupons and coupons waisted in width and thickness was studied. The static strengths obtained were good in all cases except for the double waisted GRP coupons. The longest fatigue lives for the CFRP were obtained with plain coupons since the double waisted coupons all failed prematurely in the machine grips. For the GRP the double waisted coupons gave the longest fatigue lives, but the values for the plain coupons were as good as previous values for double waisted coupons. Quantities of unreacted solid hardener were found to be present in the GRP coupons. Explanations for these observations are discussed.
