Abstract
This chapter begins with spinal problems in the neck and the lumbar region. The ubiquitous low back pain is illustrated by a number of cases which demonstrate that there are traps for the unwary in diagnosing the cause. Then follow problems affecting the hip, thigh, knee, leg and ankle, after which problems affecting the shoulder, arm, elbow and hands are presented. The chapter concludes with several cases of rheumatoid arthritis.
Musculoskeletal problems are commonly presented to the family physician. The diagnos can sometimes be most difficult and the management, particularly in the case of low back pain and rheumatoid arthritis, can test the skills of the doctor to the utmost.
