Abstract
These arrays describe the variables singly or jointly. They contain elements which are counts of discrete events. An event is the occurrence of a given state in a given variable. For example, for a variable h of S h discrete states, a dispersion array is constructed by counting the number of occurrences of each state in n ≥ S h observed units. Assume that the jth state occurs F hj times. Then the dispersion array
is the frequency distribution of variable h. Since this does not take into account joint occurrences with other variables, F h is called a marginal dispersion array or marginal distribution. Should there be more than two variables in the set, F h could be called a principal marginal distribution.
