Abstract
In this chapter, the reader will find short descriptions of the species studied in the tropical humid forest of Venezuelan Guiana, arranged according to families. In the sequence of the families, the author has followed Metcalfe & Chalk, who used the system of Bentham & Hooker in a somewhat modified and improved form. The description of each family mainly relies on the 50 characteristics chosen in the tables (pp. 19–340) which are mainly important from the ecological point of view. However, peculiarities interesting for taxonomic purposes (identification of species, systematic position of certain species) are also taken into account. In some cases, developmental observations were also made.
