Abstract
In a previous paper (Kaneda & Ando 1971), one of the authors reported that the phospholipids contained in Porphyra tenera showed antioxidant (antioxygenic) activity. However, since that paper was published, there have been no other studies on the antioxygenic substances in marine algae, so a screening test for antioxygenic principles in marine algae was carried out (see also Fujimoto & Kaneda 1980). Further, the chemical structures of antioxygenic compounds in the active algae have been determined.
