Abstract
It is indeed an honor to participate in the opening of this, the XIth International Seaweed Symposium. I would first acknowledge with appreciation the invitation that was extended to the International Seaweed Association by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Oceanology, the Chinese Society of Oceanology and Limnology, and the Chinese Phycological Society. It is certainly a pleasure to be here as their guests.
