Evaluation of Atmospheric Acidity — Sampling and Analytical Techniques

  • Conference paper
Physico-Chemical Behaviour of Atmospheric Pollutants

Summary

A full methodology for the evaluation of atmospheric acidity based upon properly designed instrumentations for sampling selected gaseous species, suspended particulate matter and rain water has been developed. It includes newly developed sampling heads and high Performance annular denuders, high precision constant flow electronic samplers and solar powered wet-dry deposimeters equipped with real time sensors of pH and conductivity reading. A set-up of three annular denuders has been used for the absorption of HNO3, HCl, SO2 and NH3 before collecting aerosol particles on a back up filter. Measurement data of the chemical composition of rain water and aerosol particles collected in parallel at three different locations are presented and the results discussed.
