Abstract
A time-domain design technique for eigenvalue-generalized eigenvector assignment using a proportional-plus-integral-plus-derivative controller is presented. The proposed design approach utilizes a null space formulation of the eigenstructure problem. The design techniques for continuous and discrete multivariable systems are investigated. In the continuous case the plant output is assumed to be available for measurement, while in the discrete case the plant state is assumed to be available for measurement. The resulting controller assigns a prescribed set of self-conjugate eigenvalues and a corresponding set of admissible self-conjugate generalized eigenvectors to the closed-loop system matrix. The proposed technique has some advantages over known techniques.
